While in LA I stayed at a hotel that happened to be hosting a modeling convention. At this event participants pay a chunk of change “to be scouted by top modeling agencies.” You pay and they bring the agents to you. This morning while enjoying my coffee in the hotel lobby, I found the place teeming with kids and teens of all ages looking for their shot. Impeccably primped and clutching the glossy promotional materials that attracted them here, the sense of anticipation is palpable. Sadly I get the impression that many don’t stand a snowball’s chance in Hell of ever seeing the working end of a photographer’s lens. But money talks and baloney walks. This is LA. Everyone has a dream.
