So I escaped the house this morning to work on some desperately overdue publicity material for Colic Solved. No such luck. But I did discover Babble. This latest foray into online parenting bills itself as a Magazine and Community for the New Urban Parent.
Despite something that might appear as the next desperate-to-be-hip parenting site, Babble is worth a look. According to editor-in-chief Ada Calhoun quoted in last Sunday’s New York Times, they intend “to avoid the fear and didacticism she sees as endemic to the parenting magazine category.” Amen.
On the health end they offer up a variety of topics presented in a point-counterpoint format. Despite the absence of a fresh medical personality unique to their site, it was satisfying to find a website that’s not afraid to identify colic as one of the longest running medical scams in history. Be sure to check out the Wisdom of the Drunk Aunt – it captures the edgy, contrarian voice that permeates the site.
In a web overrun with mommy-daddy drivel we’ll see if this one makes it. I have a good feeling.
