I woke up this morning and almost choked on my Cheerios. The Wall Street Journal has another front page article featuring a children’s hospital. This time they’re profiling The Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and their latest move to improve care for kids. If you can believe it, they’ve recruited the pit crew for Italy’s Formula One Ferrari Racing Team to help improve efficiency and communication among health care providers. The hope is that the skills and tactics used on the track can be applied in the OR and critical care setting to minimize errors.
While the cross-fertilization of business models such as this tends to make for better press than anything else, I think this is interesting and may have legs.
